Style Swap Portraits with Xieyu

A studio portrait of illustrator and translator Xieyu.

As those who follow me on Instagram know, I’ve been teasing my latest shoot, and now I’m happy to share it with all of you! I recently collaborated with my friend Xieyu, an illustrator and translator! Xieyu is a wonderfully talented visual artist- who also happened to have modelesque features and was the perfect fit for my little project.

She has an eclectic style that varies from masculine to feminine, and I felt the way she presented herself was what I was looking for. We decided on five looks; three outfits from my closet, one from hers, and one mixed.

On the shoot day, we met at Revo Lab Base,  my favourite studio in Hakata with wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. After getting situated, we started with her first look; she was so comfortable in front of the camera that everything flowed incredibly well afterwards! Xieyu has a natural grace to her movements that is very visible when you see her in person, and I did my best to capture that feeling in these photos.

It was an enjoyable morning of shooting, and while the premise was simple (“What if you wore my clothes?”), in the end, we were happy with the results!  You can see the full-sized gallery here.
